    How is caustic soda made?

Caustic soda is made through a process called electrolysis of brine. Brine, a solution of sodium chloride (NaCl) in water, is subjected to an electric current in an electrolysis cell.

This cell contains an anode and a cathode separated by a semi-permeable membrane called a diaphragm or by a mercury cathode. When the electric current flows through the cell, it causes a series of chemical reactions resulting in the production of caustic soda, chlorine gas, and hydrogen gas.

The caustic soda is then collected and processed further to remove impurities and obtain the desired concentration.
