Check that, he claims to be 6-foot, but his wife, Laurel, insists he is no taller than 5-foot-11½.

And my God, what a relief it was to hear that the man embellishes how tall he is.

After Virginia did that thing in last year’s NCAA Tournament, Bennett’s immediate and continued graciousness was held up as the new standard bearer in sportsmanship.

Here was a guy, surely gutted, behaving with such dignity that you were both grateful he was the one who lost rather than some of the sore-losing boors in his profession, and hurt that such a decent man had to go through such public humiliation.

It was hardly a shock.
