The origins of National Gorgeous Grandma Day can be traced back to 1984 when Alice Solomon, a 50-year-old graduate from Wellesley College, decided to challenge the stereotypes surrounding older women.

Solomon realized that society often viewed women over 50 as “senior citizens,” regardless of their actual age or whether they were grandmothers. Determined to change this perception, she created the concept of the “Gorgeous Grandma,” celebrating women who embrace their age, defy expectations, and continue to live life to the fullest.
